IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cheryl L.
Burmeister
April 28, 1949 – August 28, 2025
Cheryl was born on April 28,1949 to Frank and Catherine Drexler. She was the baby of the family growing up in Stoney Beach, Maryland, alongside her siblings Wiley, Irene, and Laura. As a child, she loved lacing up her metal roller skates and gliding along the sidewalks of her neighborhood.
In her younger years, Cheryl enjoyed cruising Ritchie Highway in her Chevelle, often with a story to tell-like the night she backed into a parking space at McDonald's and accidentally put it in reverse and drove straight into the light pole.
On January 29,1971, Cheryl married the love of her life, Vernon Burmeister. Together they had two daughters, Lori (Jeff Griffith) and Heather (Marshall Starkey). Unfortunately, they divorced in 1981 (we'll circle back to this later).
Cheryl had a creative spirit and generous heart. She enjoyed ceramics, making crafts, crocheting blankets for loved ones and sharing her talents as a hairdresser-always quick to pick up scissors and a comb for family and friends. She could be found on Monday nights bowling at Riviera Beach Bowling Alley. She had fun losing at basket bingo, spending money at craft fairs or enjoying live shows at the Hippodrome. Cheryl's family fondly remembers her famous potato salad, which was requested at every gathering, and her spending weekends camping, sitting by the firepit with a Long Island Iced Tea. She loved the color yellow, Barry Manilow music and her garden.
Above all else, Cheryl cherished her family. She was a devoted grandmother to her three grandchildren-Amanda, Hunter, and Austin and was overjoyed to welcome her first greatgrandchild Rosie. She rarely missed a school performance, football or baseball game, and her presence and encouragement meant the world to them.
Remember the love of her life, Vernon? Though life took them in different directions for a time, their bond endured, and in August 2008 they found their way back to each other, remarrying and spending their later years together. Vernon was by her side when she passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025 at the age of 76.
