Charles Franklin Rey, 86, of Annapolis, and previously of Wheaton, Maryland, passed away Jan. 28, 2023, from complications of kidney failure.
Charlie was born Oct. 26, 1936, in Baltimore, the last child in a large family born to Harry Norman Rey and Irene Margaret Kelly. He graduated in 1955 from Towson Catholic High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. After several years of night school, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1964 from the Baltimore College of Commerce. He built a successful career in accounting and retired in 2002 as an investigator and assistant director with the General Accounting Office, now the Government Accountability Office, in Washington, D.C.
Charlie enjoyed photography, travel, crossword puzzles and a good cigar.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Rey, of Ellicott City, and David Rey (wife, Diane), of Annapolis, and three granddaughters, Emily Rolewicz, Julia Rey and Olivia Rey, who doted on him and called him "Baka."
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara (Bartholomew) Rey, in 2006.
Visitation will be held on Saturday February 4, 2023 from 10:00am-12:00pm with a service to follow at 12:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park, MD 21146. Burial will be private at a later date at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD.
