Charles Werner Hofmeister, 84, a resident of Severna Park, MD., died on January 19, 2011.
He was born on February 8, 1926 in Baltimore City, MD. He was the 7th child to Henry and Marie Hofmeister. His past residences include Catonsville and Severna Park.
Charles was drafted into the WWII effort at the age of 18. He joined the 82nd Airborne Division 504 Infantry Regiment. Charles was shipped to Europe to join the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and captured by the Germans. As a result he received a Purple Heart and other citations. He was liberated 3 weeks later, reactivated and then shipped back to the U.S. where he received an honorable discharge.
Charles returned to Food Fair as a grocery clerk, where he was later promoted to Division Grocery Head Buyer. He stayed with Food Fair for 40 years. He than joined A&P Super Fresh as executive Vice President of Operations. He retired in 1991 and enjoyed the beach and his family.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Inge Hofmeister of Severna Park; three sons, Michael Hofmeister (Rebecca), Stephen Hofmeister (Sandra), and Thomas Hofmeister (Donna); and fourteen grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit on Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 1:00 pm -4:00 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park.
A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore.
