Peacefully, on May 17, 2021, at home and surrounded by family Charles Eugene Young succumbed to dementia. Born in Connellsville, West Virginia on July 29, 1931, he was the son of Fauntleroy and Edna (Shrout) Young. Charles was raised in Cumberland, MD. He was the second of five children and the only boy. He received his early education at West Side Elementary School and graduated from Allegany High School in June 1950.

After completing his education Charles joined the Marine Corp in 1949 and was discharged in 1953 as a Corporal. After basic training in Paris Island, he was shipped out to Korea in1951 and fought in the Korean War. After his discharge from the service, he became a member of Carpenters, Local 101 and worked most of his career with The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company until retirement in 1993.

After being introduced by a Marine Corp buddy, Charles married Doris Elaine Drumm. He was a devoted husband for over 65 years. This union was blessed with two sons and a daughter.  In 1966 Charles and Doris joined Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church in Annapolis. Later they built a new building named, St Andrews by the Bay Catholic Church where Charles, Doris and their children attended. Charles was a faithful member, volunteered, and served as an usher and member of St. Andrew by the Bay Social Committee.

Charles was a generous and caring man who would do anything for anyone. He never complained and would always express his appreciation with his beautiful smile. Charles loves to eat and would always finish his meal with a large dish of ice cream.

Charles and Doris enjoyed traveling throughout the US and abroad. A trip to Germany for Octoberfest allowed them to show off their square-dancing skills. He also enjoyed working with his son David on many building and remodeling projects.

He was a member of the Marine Corp League, Elks Lodge Broadneck Local #2608, and  was a volunteer at Anne Arundel Medical Center's Consignment shop, "The Clothes Box" for 25 years with over 5500 volunteer hours.

He participated in many other volunteer activities with the Marine Corp League as well as Church activities, which included being an usher during mass up until his health began to decline three years ago. He enjoyed watching and attending the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Colts, Baltimore Ravens, and Capitals Hockey games. He also enjoyed fishing and bowling with his son, and family gatherings with his children, grandchildren, and siblings. Other activities which he enjoyed and volunteered, included coaching his son's little league team. Charles took white-water rafting trips with his family. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed being outdoors. Charles was also an avid drawer which was one of his favorite hobbies. When the grandchildren came over, he would draw little characters on their hands and show them how to make the drawn characters talk.

Charles is survived by his wife, Doris, sons: Stephen Young (Cheryl) of Arnold, MD, David Young (Cathy) of Annapolis, MD, and daughter Katharine Senft (Rick) of Arnold, MD; Grandson Daniel Young of Annapolis, MD, granddaughters, Elizabeth Geist (Mark) of San Antonio, TX, Ashley Senft-Alton of Queenstown, MD, and Sarah Penne (Luke) of Locust Point, MD; great-granddaughters: Jordan Geist and Abigail Alton, great-grandsons: Robert Geist and Andrew Geist.
