Charles W. Deakyne, 89, a resident of Severna Park, passed away on July 20, 2016, at his home. He was born on March 18, 1927 in Ridley Park, PA and was raised in West Chester, PA and Baltimore, MD. Charles attended St. Paul's School and Cornell University, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He spent his summers in Severna Park from 1939-1945, and moved to Severna Park in 1965. Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946, during WWII. He worked as a civil engineer for Whitman, Requardt, & Associates in Baltimore, until his retirement. Charles was a member of the AWWA; NSPE; Chairman Board of Trustees for Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church; President of Round Bay Community Association; Sailing Club of the Chesapeake; and Naval Academy Sailing Squadron. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Melva Deakyne. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jane M. Deakyne of Severna Park; three sons, Douglas Deakyne of Arnold, Scott Deakyne of Grasonville, and Donald Deakyne of Williamsburg, VA; and five grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday July 27, 2016 at10:0am in the Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, Severna Park, MD, with a reception to follow in the hall. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery on March 1, 2017, family and friends should meet at the Arlington Administration Building at 215pm.
