Crowl, Sr.
September 11, 1939 – January 26, 2019
On January 26, 2019 Charles H. Crowl beloved husband of Ann Crowl, passed away after a prolonged illness. At the time of his passing Charlie was in care at the Somerford Place Alzheimer's Assisted Living in Parole, Annapolis, Maryland. He is predeceased by his parents Arthur and Clara Crowl, his sister Diane Dorr-Dorynek, his brother William Crowl and his son Charles Crowl Jr. Charlie is survived by his wife Ann, his daughter Kristen Crowl Dieso and her husband Harold.
Charlie was a graduate of George Washington University. After joining the U.S. Navy, he attended the Russian Language Institute in Monterey, California where he then worked for the Naval Security Group. He spent ten years in active military service with the U.S. Navy and moved from active duty to a career with the Department of Defense. He retired from government service in the early 2000's.
Charlie enjoyed attending concerts and theater productions. He had a love for guitar, especially classical guitar music and the ukulele.
Charlie loved to travel and experience new places and things. In his teens, he took the grand tour of Europe on $5 a day, spending the better part of a year traveling the continent.
Charlie was active in local politics; he volunteered with his local community association and was involved in the Greater Pasadena Area Council, once serving as its President.
Charlie worked with Arundel House of Hope and started the Winter Relief Program at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Pasadena Maryland. He loved the Church and religious studies; he was a long-term member of the Choir at St. Andrew's Pasadena, a founding member of the St. Andrew's Men's Study Group, a member and officer of the church's Vestry, served as Sr. Warden and Jr. Warden at one time and one of the original organizers of their annual St. Patrick's Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. Charlie organized a tour of the Holy Land, served on a Maryland Episcopal Cursillo team, participated in Episcopal Men's Retreats, even organized breakfast fundraisers to raise money to pave the church's parking lot.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the BARRANO & SONS, P.A. SEVERNA PARK FUNERAL HOME, located at 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park, on Friday February 1, 2019 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m. at which time a Christian Funeral service will be held. All are invited to a celebration of Charlie's life at 2:30 p.m. on the same day at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 7859 Tick Neck Road in Pasadena, MD.
