Charles Calka
Charles A. "Charlie" Calka, 57, of Annapolis, an executive of the Chesapeake Publishing Corp. who was well-known in newspaper circles, died Aug. 31 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The cause of death is not available.
Born June 17, 1948, in Port Chester, N.Y., and the son of the late Anthony and Anne Calka, Mr. Calka was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and served in the Connecticut National Guard.
Active in the newspaper and printing industry, he worked for the Chesapeake Publishing Corporation's Printing Division, where he served as president, and since 1980, chief financial officer. The company publishes

Star Democrat,
the
Cecil Whig
and other periodicals on the Eastern Shore in Maryland and Delaware.
Previously he was the corporate controller of Morris Newspaper Corp. in Savannah, Ga.
He was a regular attendee at Suburban Newspapers of America's annual meeting and served as director of Printing Industries of America's Web Press Association.
An avid boater, he enjoyed his 40-foot Sea Ray named
Our Time,
golf and automobiles.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Grimes-Calka; and three children, Caryn F. Calka and Thomas L. Grimes, both of Annapolis, and Mitzi N. Calka of Baltimore.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial is private.
