Charles Melvin Althoff

1941 - 2026

Charles Melvin Althoff, 84, passed away at his home in Severna Park, Maryland, on July 8, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and nurtured a lifelong love of traveling and sailing.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and their families, a sister and brother and their families, and two sisters-in-law and their families. He and his wife would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary later this month.

Aside from serving three years in the U.S. Army in Germany, Charles spent his life in Maryland. He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Maryland, worked for over two decades at Westinghouse, and had a side career in real estate.

Charles was happiest on the water and surrounded by family. He derived much joy from his grandchildren; restoring old boats; learning about the Civil War; and taking trips throughout Europe, Asia, and North and South America. He also enthusiastically volunteered at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Baltimore.

His family is planning a private memorial service to take place next month.
