Carroll L. "Stuffy" Heathcote, 92, a 45-year resident of Anne Arundel County, died on October 20, 2011 at his home in Crofton.
He was born February 8, 1919, in Glen Rock, PA, where he grew up and went to school. Moving to Washington, DC in the late thirties, Stuffy worked at the Naval Gun Factory before entering the U.S. Army in July 1944. He was a member of the 327th Glider Infantry, 101st Airborne and fought in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns in WWII. He was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars and later became a member of the American Legion. After settling down in Crofton in 1966, Stuffy raised his family and worked as a Design Engineer at the U.S. Navy Yard weapons plant, retiring in 1974. He enjoyed retirement traveling with his wife and family, and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Caroline D. "Sue" Heathcote; daughter Kathi Malechek (David) of North Carolina; and son Jim Heathcote (Trish) of Crofton. He was a proud Grandfather of four and Great Grandfather of five. He is also survived by a niece Dr. Anne Bowen of Crofton and nephew Dr. Mike Bowen of Sandy Ridge, NC.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27 from 5-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. MD 21146. Services will be held at 11:30am on Friday October 28, 2011 at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, MD.
