Carol Reinhold, 89, of Arnold Maryland passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, February 8th. Her loving husband Ted (Herbert) Reinhold Jr. was, as always, by her side. Carol was born Carol Joan Schaaff, April 2, 1933 in Englewood, New Jersey to Frederick and Martha Schaaff. Carol, the youngest of 4 lived in Teaneck, a small town in northeastern New Jersey, and attended Teaneck High School where she was captain of the cheerleader squad.

On a trip to the Jersey Shore, she met her future husband and love of her life, Ted Reinhold. They married in 1956 and moved to Clifton, New Jersey. Carol and Ted became the parents of 4 sons. After moving to Hillsdale they made their home for 7 years in River Vale, New Jersey. Their home became the center for extended family holiday parties and regular gatherings.

Carol always made sure her boys had everything they needed, especially love and laughter. She and Ted included adventure as part of their childhood. They took their boys on numerous camping trips, special places, and spent time at Green Pond, a small lake in northern NJ. Carol also went on to join the River Vale Volunteer Ambulance Corp, becoming one of the first female ambulance drivers in River Vale.

Carol, Ted and the boys moved to Rockville Maryland in 1972. The Chesapeake Bay caught Carol and Ted's attention and it wasn't long before the family bought their first sailboat, a sunken, wooden boat. It became an ongoing family project requiring months of major repairs, scraping, caulking and painting. The Reinholds set sail on most summer weekends. Carol, always a good sport, became the first mate, ship's gourmet chef, and all-around leader of the crew. Over the next several decades, their boats got bigger, as did their love for sailing. Carol and Ted expanded their sailing experiences by taking their kids on bareboat adventures in the Virgin Islands.

After a number of years Carol became the Health Aide at Twinbrook Elementary School in Rockville. She valued the working hours that permitted her to see the boys off in the mornings and be there when they returned. Family, as always, was her first priority. Later, as the sons started to go to college, Carol and Ted increased their travel going to many places including Europe, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Australia, and Fiji. As the years passed, Carol and Ted enjoyed seeing their sons graduate, start their careers, marry, and grow the family with grandchildren.

In the early 1990's, Carol and Ted moved to their dream home on the waters of the Magothy River, a tributary to their cherished Chesapeake Bay. Carol and Ted were active in the Chesapeake Bristol Sailing Club and sailed around the bay with them. Carol and Ted's prime focus was their 10 grandchildren. There is nothing Carol loved more than getting together with family for Christmas at the "Bay House," the biannual trips to the Outer Banks, and simply being with her grandchildren. She always took pride in their accomplishments and was there, along with Ted, for events and milestones, big and, small, always showing love and encouragement. All will keep her forever in their hearts remembering her love for them.

Carol is survived by Ted, her husband of 67 years; her sons Herb (Peggy), Bruce (Jen), John (Marcia) and Steve (Anne); and her sister June Schaaff. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ted (Amanda), Stephanie (Daniel), McKenzie (Kellen), Abby, Will, Johnny (Laura), Tyler (Mel), Nick and Nate. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brother Fred and his wife Mickey, sister Ann and grandson Tommy, a sweet angel.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for the weekend of Carol's birthday, April 1st. Details will be available later.
