Carol McLay passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021
Carol was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and was raised in Seattle, Washington where she was a graduate of Queen Anne High School. She later attended Oregon State University.
Carol was married to Bill McLay for 55 years prior to his death in 2018. She was a dedicated wife and mother who raised three children while supporting her husband's business career and Coast Guard Reserve service. Carol was always passionate about the importance of education and she returned to college in her early 40's to obtain a teaching degree from UMBC. She went on to receive a Master's degree in Education from Loyola University. Carol taught at Gibson Island Country School, High Point Elementary, Riviera Beach Elementary and Oak Hill Elementary. She retired as a reading specialist for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. She continued to tutor students following her retirement.
Carol enjoyed time with friends and family. She enjoyed travel, the symphony, theater and discussing current events. She never lost her passion for education and enjoyed taking art history classes and associated trips in her retirement. Carol was a loving grandmother who was always happy to spend time with her grandchildren.
Carol is predeceased by her parents, Harold W. Ajax and the former Helen Naomi Netherby, and her husband, Bill McLay. She is survived by her brother, John Ajax, her sisters, Kathy Bader and Eileen Lydford and her three children and their spouses, Reid & Melissa McLay, Anne & Rob Bodnar and Andy & Stefanie McLay. Her grandchildren are Allie, Jack, Connor, Corey, Ben and Kylie.
Carol will be remembered for her warmth, her smile and the occasional raised eyebrow. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday June 28, 2021 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146.
