Carl William Voelp, 95, passed away peacefully at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, Maryland early Wednesday, March 13, 2019. His beloved son Bill was at his bedside.
He was born August 14, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland to Jacob Voelp and Louise Mattheisz Voelp. Survivors include his cherished wife Evangelia (Nina) Nimorakiotaki Voelp, his daughter Carla Voelp Rosenblum and her companion Douglas (Chip) O'Neil, Jr. of Howell, Michigan, their son William G. Voelp and his wife Brooke Wright Voelp of Pasadena, Maryland. His surviving grandchildren are Leah Rosenblum Hughes and her husband Bill Hughes, Carl Rosenblum and his companion Shannon Severn, Corrine Voelp Bouffard and her husband Alex Bouffard, and Jacob Carl Voelp. He also leaves behind three beloved great grandchildren Hailey Hughes, Jarrett Hughes, and Braden Hughes. He was preceded in death by his brother Louis George Voelp and his brother's wife Virginia Lauler Voelp.
Carl Voelp grew up in Woodlawn, Maryland. He told stories about spending time at his grandfather and father's hardware store Mattheisz Brothers on Hull Street. He graduated from Catonsville High School in June of 1941 and also from the Maryland Institute in 1947. He worked as a machinist, a master plumber, and then chief inspector of public works for Baltimore County for 30 years before his retirement.
His favorite pastime was helping his children and friends do minor repairs to their homes and other fixer upper projects. He was an avid Bible reader and was always praying. He loved to vacation in Ocean City with his "angel" Nina and the rest of his family. Always at church on Sunday, he worshipped either at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie, Maryland or at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox church in Annapolis, Maryland with his wife.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, March 16 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 308 Oak Manor Dr, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 10:30 AM with a reception to follow.
