IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl
Nickel
June 4, 1939 – January 8, 2026
Carl Henry “Nick” Nickel, age 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Born on June 4, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Carl was the beloved son of John and Henrietta Nickel. He was a proud Army veteran and later devoted his career to public service, retiring as a Master Electrician with the Department of the Navy.
Carl was a widower and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kristen “Kristee” Nickel, whom he missed dearly.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Brenda Horton (Ron Chance) of Arnold and Michele Truelove (Glenn Truelove) of Annapolis; his stepchildren, Cheryl Herron of Pasadena, Tammy Danna-Carter of Calloway, MD, and Peter Danna of Pasadena; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. His family was the center of his life, and he took great pride in each generation.
Carl was an active and dedicated member of the Broadneck Elks Lodge #2608, where he served in many roles, including a term as Exalted Ruler. Fellowship meant everything to him, and he was rarely found without friends nearby.
He had a lifelong love of the outdoors, especially hunting trips to the mountains of Pennsylvania with his hunting club. He also loved crabbing and fishing and could often be found enjoying shuffleboard, darts, or a game of pool. Carl had a deep appreciation for 1950s music and country music, and he was always ready for a good time and a toast with friends.
Known for his warm greeting of “hey baby” to his girls, Carl was a natural storyteller with a gift for making people laugh and feel welcome. His presence filled every room, and his stories and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Severna Park Elks Lodge #2482, located at 160 Truck House Road, Severna Park, MD 21146. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carl’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
