Carl Hester

L. Carl Hester, 73, of Severna Park, died of cancer Nov. 28 at North Arundel Hospital after a brief illness.

Born March 30, 1931, and reared in Bladen County, N.C., Mr. Hester served as a staff sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean War. He earned two Bronze Stars, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He was vice president and general manager for Bituminous Construction, a road construction company.

Mr. Hester was a member of Anchor Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, travel and ceramics.

Surviving are his wife, Eileen Lohrmann Hester; three sons, James Hester of Arnold, Michael Hester of Pasadena and Joseph Hester of Dallas; two daughters, Barbara Ratliff and Patricia Napora, both of Glen Burnie; two brothers, Irving Hester of Bladenboro, N.C., and William Hester of Williamsburg, Va.; two sisters, Marguerite Blanchard of Chester, S.C., and Lucy Kelly of Bladenboro; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Anchor Baptist Church, 320 W. Pasadena Road, Millersville. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
