Carl was born on June 18,1945 in Canby Minnesota to the late Paul & Ardyce Gilbert.He spent the first 4 years on the family farm. After his father's untimely death Carl,his mother & brother moved to. California to live with his grandmother. They returned to South Dakota in 1957 where Carl completed his education. He graduated from Scotland High School in 1963.
He received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1968 from South Dakota State University. He was a member of the ROTC. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 6 years at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and Maryland. He continued to work in engineering for NSA for over 35 years.
Carl liked to try new things and he was a skydiver for a few years. He said it was quite exciting to free fall & float over the landscape.
He married his wife Teresa on February18,1978. Together they loved travel. He had been to all 50 states,17 European countries and many Caribbean islands. Memorable trips were to Australia to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, a cruise in French Polynesia and a 4 day bus trip in the Champagne region of France which included many tastings. Also, cruises with friends to Alaska and the Panama canal.
Carl loved spending time with family & friends. He had fun playing with all the children in the family. When he visited family in South Dakota there always was a request for his chili.
Carl was a member of the Severn River Lions Club for many years. He contributed his time and computer skills to there fruit sale and other projects.
He is survived by his beloved wife Teresa Green Gilbert, brother Thomas Gilbert, nephews Paul Gilbert(Glenda), James Gilbert(Bridget) Great Niece Patricia Gilbert, Great nephews Thomas & Johnathan Gilbert

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday November 13, 2025 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care,P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment with honors will be held on Friday November 14, 2025 at 1:00pm at MD Veterans Cemetery 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd Crownsville, MD 21108.
