Captain "Cappy" Kidd, U.S. Naval Reserve (Ret.) passed away on 23 September 2023, in Annapolis, MD. He was 79 years old.
Born in Atlanta, GA, on 14 December 1943, Cappy was the first child of Admiral Isaac Campbell "Ike" Kidd, Jr., and Marie Angelique de Golian. Though he experienced the mobile life of a Navy family, Annapolis was Cappy's home, starting first grade at St. Mary's Elementary and returning for twelfth grade to graduate from St. Mary's High School in 1961.
Cappy attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting in 1966.
Cappy started his Naval career reporting to SPRINGFIELD (CLG-7) and then in 1968, he reported to Staff CINCUSNAVEUR, London, England, for a two-year posting in the intelligence community to support Special Submarine Operations. In 1970, he ended his active duty and continued as a Naval Reservist. Cappy retired as a Captain on 1 December 1996, after 30 years of service including establishing and serving as the first Commanding Officer of Naval Audit Service Headquarters, Washington, D.C.
Cappy was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, the National Defense Medal with Bronze Star, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Hourglass, in addition to the Secretary of the Navy Unit Commendation. He was a member of the United States Navy League, the Naval Reserve Association, and served as Director del Banquet, Military Order of the Carabao.
During his civilian life, Cappy held prominent staff and management positions in Comptrollership and International Marketing with Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Northrop Grumman. His postings included tours in Annapolis, MD, Sunnyvale, CA, and Washington, D.C., where as Director of International Trade for Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems, he led International Marketing and U.S. Government relations and served as embassy liaison. In parallel, Cappy was also a Certified Public Accountant in private practice.
Cappy spent his life with the woman he loved, building a family he cherished, pursuing his many passions, and forging life-long friendships. He was an avid yachtsman, sailing all his life including racing and cruising his sloop "Masquerade" from Annapolis to New England, Bermuda, and Novia Scotia. He was the past Commodore of the Annapolis Yacht Club, was past president and active village elder of his beloved Bayberry on the Magothy Community, and a parishioner at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis. He was a black powder and antique rifle (muzzle loader) enthusiast, the Safety Chair for the BMW Bikers of Metropolitan Washington, a member of the Anne Arundle Fish and Game Association, and as a young man, he was active in the Knights of Columbus.
Predeceased by his parents, Cappy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pamela Webster of Randolph, VT; their children, Michael (Susan) Kidd and Lisa (Brian) Bucci; grandchildren, Emma, Isaac Campbell V, and Jacob Kidd and Emidio Andrew and Christopher Bucci; his brothers, Kevin and Christopher; and sisters, Angelique Smith, Regina Wolbarsht, and Mary Plumer. He was also predeceased by his grandfather, RADM Isaac Campbell Kidd, Sr., who served as Commander, Battleship Division One aboard ARIZONA (BB-39) 7 December 1941.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Cappy's life on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 2 to 4pm & 6 to 8pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 11am in St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
