IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Calvin
Vain
March 4, 1943 – February 15, 2022
It is with heavy hearts as we announce that Calvin Vain passed on February 15, 2022 with the love of his life holding his hand and his family by his side. Calvin was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 4, 1943. He met his childhood sweetheart just a few streets over, they married in March 1964 making this year their 58 th anniversary.
He has been a resident of Arnold, Maryland since 1967, a graduate of Towson University, obtaining two master degrees from Virginia Tech. He started in the workforce initially as a mail carrier but transitioned to his true love of teaching. He has been a lifelong educator in numerous schools within Anne Arundel County, impacting many young lives throughout his career. The moment he learned to walk he had a basketball in his hands and passed on his passion with 30+ years of being a basketball coach. Since his retirement he had been savoring time spent with his family, who were the light of his life, especially his grandkids who referred to him as grandpa and papa. In his spare time he enjoyed crabbing and preparing the best crab feasts, watching sports especially those his grandkids participated in, as well as his nightly television shows including jeopardy and law and order with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Sallie Vain, his brothers Alvin and Ralph Vain and his devoted son Todd Vain. He is survived by his love of 58 years Joyce Vain (Curtian), beloved daughters Carrie Emery (Dane) and Kristina Frischkorn (Dave), his son Calvin Vain Jr (Kathleen), his grandchildren; Christian, Alicia, Sarah, Hope, Erica, Bella, Landon, Karly, Lia and Marjorie, his great-grandchildren Alaina, Preston and Walton and his brothers Jack Vain (Caroline) and James Vain (Sandy). Calvin will be dearly missed but we know we will see him again and he will be watching over us.
