Calvert A. Upton II, 81, a lifelong Anne Arundel County resident, passed away on November 5, 2022, at his residence in Millersville.

He was born on June 9, 1941, in Baltimore, MD, and was raised in Glen Burnie, MD. He attended Richard Henry Lee Elementary School, Glen Burnie Junior High, and Glen Burnie High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth, on January 27, 1962, and was married for 60 years. Calvert received his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from State Teachers College at Frostburg.

Calvert was employed as a Physical Education Teacher at North Glen Elementary School in Anne Arundel County before working at the family business, Atlantic Valve and Supply Company, and Miller and Upton Painting Company.

Calvert was a member of Severn Run Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He loved singing in the church choir his entire life. Calvert was a member of the Glen Burnie UMC youth choir, Baldwin UMC choir, and since 1995 the Severn Run EP choir. He was an emeritus member of the Naval Academy Golf Course, Compass Pointe Golf Course, and an AAMC Auxiliary Volunteer.

He enjoyed family gatherings, golf, Ocean City vacations, and wintering in Florida with friends. He was fondly known by his grandchildren and great-grandson as "Duke."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvert A. and Alice R. Upton, and his sister, Carolyn U. Miller of Centreville, MD.

Calvert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Striegel Upton of Millersville, MD; daughter, Karyn U. Butler (Bob Butler) of Millersville, MD; son, J. Calvert Upton (Holly Upton) of Millersville, MD; grandchildren, Robert Butler (Stephanie), Bryan Butler (Dayna), Zachary Butler, Jackson Upton, Jeremiah Upton, Joseph Upton; and one great-grandson, Grayson Butler.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, November 13, 2022, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 10:00 am at Severn Run EP Church, 1624 Millersville Road, Millersville, MD 21108.

Interment will follow immediately after the service at Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery in Millersville, MD.
