NUNNALLY, C. HAMILTON, JR. On May 12, 2013, C. Hamilton Nunnally, Jr., aged 92, passed away of natural causes at Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, Md.
He was the beloved husband of the late Frances N. Nunnally, who passed away in 2004, after 55 years of marriage. He is survived by two children: Leslie N. Christopher (Mark), of McLean, Va., and Janis N. Duin (Rob), of Gaithersburg, Md. Hamilton is survived by four grandchildren: Lisa Conner Idem (Scott), of Gaithersburg, Md., Scott Hamilton Conner (Rebecca), of Seattle, Wa., Steven Andrew Christopher and Michael Francis Christopher, both of McLean, Va.
Hamilton was born on March 20, 1921, in Baltimore, Maryland to Columbus H. Nunnally, Sr., and Eva Rowley Nunnally. C. H. Nunnally, Sr. was a partner in Nunnally Brothers Meats, the oldest remaining family owned business in the Baltimore City Market system (1875). Hamilton was an only child, graduating from Southern High School in 1939. He was the President of the Honor Council and was honored to be named "Best Boy All Around" in his graduating class. He attended Johns Hopkins University, and joined the Army Signal Corps where he was stationed in the Philippines during World War II.
He was employed by John Morrell & Co. for 43 years, retiring as District Manager in 1984. After his marriage to Frances in 1948, he lived in Brooklyn Park, and then moved to Severna Park in 1954 where they lived until 1993. Hamilton and Frances then lived in Heritage Harbour in Annapolis until 2011 when he moved to Asbury Methodist Village. He was a lifetime sports enthusiast, leader, and organizer. He played baseball and basketball at Southern, and continued baseball in the Army as player/manager. He later organized the Severna Park/Linstead softball tournaments, a highlight of the three summer holidays. He was past president of the Severna Park Improvement Association, and the Toastmasters, as well as a member of the Masons. He was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church. In later years, he became an avid golfer, joining Bay Hills Golf Club in Arnold, Md., where he and Frances led the "Sundowners" on many golf trips around the country for more than 30 years. He also organized Southern High School reunions for 60 years. Moving to Asbury, he started a poker club and organized talent shows for residents. He entertained friends with a comedy routine several days before he died.
Friends are invited to visit Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, Md. on Thursday, May 16, between 6 and 8 p.m. Services will be held on Friday, May 17, at 11:00 am, also at Barranco, followed by interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
