Bruce Carl Petro, 78, a resident of Millersville, passed away on July 19, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends after a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 2, 1946 to Stephen and Marion (nee Mahaney) Petro in Buffalo, NY and raised in the Town of Tonawanda, NY. Bruce attended the University of Buffalo, where he received his Masters in Industrial Engineering. He also received a Professional Industrial Engineer Certificate.
Bruce met his wife Karen (nee Moll) at the Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls, NY and married on June 9, 1973.
Bruce worked with the Federal Emergency Management Administration, the Veterans Administration, the United States Postal Service, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
He also served in the United States Army Reserve.
Bruce was a member of the Anne Arundel County Police Reserve Officer Unit from 2006 to the present where he attained the rank of Reserve Major, Secretary of Anne Arundel County Reserve Officer Foundation, member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary 2007- present where he attained the rank of Ensign Flotilla 23-04 Staff Officer, Natural Resources Police Auxiliary Southern District 2007- present, and the Civil Air Patrol Apollo Squadron from 2007-2016 where he attained the rank of Lieutenant.
Bruce was also a member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church in Millersville, MD, Institute of Industrial Engineers, the National Capital Chapter, where he served as a Director, Member of Institute of Industrial Engineers.
He was an Antique Car Collector. Bruce enjoyed motorcycling, boating, wood carving, and law enforcement memorabilia collection. He played the guitar, banjo and dobro.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen E. Petro; brother, Stephen J. Petro (Wendy Carrier) of Spencerport, NY; and his nephew, Mark R. Petro of King George County, VA.
Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM and on Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 9:00 AM – 10:15 AM at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Fields Church, 1070 Cecil Avenue S., Millersville, MD 21108. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
