On January 13th, 2026 Bruce F. Miller, 87, of Pasadena, MD passed away from complications of long-term sepsis damage. He is now with the Lord, his Savior.

Bruce will be deeply missed by his wife, Joan Para Miller, and his family. Bruce was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Bunting Miller, with whom he had two children, daughter Debbie (Art) Schwarz, of Lewisberry, PA and son David (Susan) of Crownsville, MD. Debbie has two children, Cole and Rachel Cuomo, and two stepsons, Cameron and Ryan Schwarz. David has three sons, Jake (Natalie) Miller and their son Cody, Alex Miller, and Andrew Miller.

Bruce is also survived by his stepsons, Christopher (Michele) Para of Severna Park, MD, and their sons Brendan and Justin Para, Brian Para deceased, Drew Para (Kathryn) of Crofton, MD and their daughters Gwynevier “Nev” and Lilith Para.

Bruce had a distinguished career in broadcasting starting in 1950 as a youngster, mixing audio church remotes to Philadelphia station WPEN AM. He learned tube radio and TV repair in a family-owned store. While still in high school, he earned FCC 3rd, 2nd and 1st Class Radio-Telephone Operator licenses. In college he helped assemble a vacuum tube UHF station at Philadelphia station WPCA TV17 and became its audio and maintenance engineer. He also assisted FM station WQAL to convert to stereo.

Bruce joined the CBS Television Network Engineering Group in late 1966 to design systems for color studio implementation and then became responsible for capital planning for their owned and operated stations. He was named Director of Technical Operations at WCBS-TV New York to implement electronic news gathering and was also responsible for installing their new TV transmission center in the World Trade Center.

In 1978 Bruce joined ABC Operations and Engineering, assisting them in planning, constructing, installing and documenting the relocation of their engineering operations. Then he was assigned to design and oversee construction of ABC’s new Washington, D.C. News Bureau for Network TV and Radio, completed in 1982. He became Manager, Studio/Field Operations in the new Broadcast Center.

In late 1991 Bruce joined the Advanced Television Test Center as General Manager in PBS’ labs. That involved maintaining a tight schedule for testing proposed digital systems for future high-definition television, resulting in acceptance of the ATSC HDTV system of broadcasting in the U.S. Bruce received an EMMY Award for his contributions. From 1993 to 1997 he worked with PBS in Alexandria, VA, becoming Vice President of Broadcasting and Technical Services, providing 350 stations in five time zones with multiple program services via compressed digital satellite transponders. Beginning in 1997, he was selected to the President, Chief Operating

Officer of the Model HDTV Station Project, operating the experimental station WHD-DT located in the NBC facility in northwest Washington, D.C.

As his career in broadcasting was winding down, Bruce spent a year as Director of Engineering at WRC-TV Washington, D.C. From there he went to Aeronautical Radio, Inc. (ARINC) to design satellite support facilities for their SKYLINK project, which permitted two-way satellite links from aircraft to land-based facilities, including the internet. His final assignment there involved three years of flight testing commercial and business aircraft for the FAA program to ensure that they could maintain autopilot vertical changes within 200 feet of assigned altitude.

He served as an Elder at Annapolis Evangelical Presbyterian Church for many years. Since retiring, Bruce was a loyal volunteer and docent at the National Capital Radio & Television Museum in Bowie, MD. He found great joy in his church community, volunteering, had a passion for trains, repairing anything and everything, and enjoying dessert.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, January 29  from 1-2pm with a service to start at 2pm at Severna Park Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 110 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena MD. Interment will be at Whitemarsh Memorial Park Cemetery, Ambler, PA at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Capital Radio & Television Museum, Bowie, MD, Severna Park Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Pasadena, MD, or the charity of your choice.
