Bruce Fisher, 81, beloved husband, father, uncle, and grandfather passed away in his Millersville, Maryland home on July 6, 2016. Born on October 22, 1934 in New York to James Clarence Fisher, Jr and Jeanette Thompson Heatherington Fisher, Bruce graduated from Fordham University and served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1972.
Bruce enlisted in the Navy January of 1955 and attended Officer Candidate School in 1962. In 1962, Bruce married Francine Torres Fisher, and together they had four children, Dennis Fisher, Jim Fisher, Rick Fisher, and Christina Fisher Chambers. Bruce become a Navy officer in December 1962, and he and Francine resided in Scotland, the Azores, Portugal, Okinawa, Japan, and Maryland. After an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1972, he began his employment with the Department of Defense. Francine passed away in 1985.
Bruce married Yoriko Murabe Fisher in 1986, and together they had one child, Erika Fisher. Bruce, Yoriko, and Erika spent 12 years on the Yokoto Military Base in Japan. In 2009, Bruce retired from the Department of Defense, and they returned to Millersville, MD.
Bruce avidly collected antiques, such as stamps, coins, guns, and toy soldiers. More than anything, Bruce loved spending time with his grandchildren and extended family. He enjoyed teaching his family the game of chess, and he always said, "Great minds embrace the game of chess." Bruce was a central presence at all family gatherings, such as birthdays, baptisms, promotions, weddings, and holidays, and he proudly attended his grandchildren's sports events, musical performances, and annual "Grandparent's Day."
Bruce is survived by his loving wife Yoriko Fisher; children, Dennis Fisher and wife Mary Dallas of Anchorage, AK, Jim Fisher and wife Tricia of Arnold, Richard Fisher and wife Amy of Arnold, Christina Chambers and husband Rick of Arnold, Erika Fisher of Santa Monica, CA; and six grandchildren, Lauren Marie & Davis Fisher, Abigail and Madeline Fisher, Anabel and Natalie Chambers, all of Arnold.
A Memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday July 12, 2016 from 9-10:00am with a Memorial service to follow at 10:00am in the Barranco & Sons,P.A Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment to follow in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, MD.
