IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonnie
Duke
August 12, 1950 – May 29, 2022
Bonnie Lynn Kunenetz Duke passed away peacefully on May 29, 2022 joining her most beloved husband, Ellis and those she loved who passed before her. Her good friends Jan, Karen and Bill were with her when she passed.
Born on August 12, 1950, Bonnie was raised in Baltimore then later moved with her family to Baltimore County where she graduated from Delaney High School. She attended and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park where she majored in Elementary Education. There, she met lifelong friends with whom she still kept in touch, with Jan Butts being her steadfast friend for over 50 years. Bonnie taught first grade for Prince George's County Public Schools for many years until she earned her Master's Degree in Reading from Loyola University in Baltimore. She then became a reading specialist and taught graduate level classes for Trinity College in Washington, DC.
Bonnie married her beloved husband, Ellis J Duke on his birthday, May 26, 1985. As original owners in Stewart's Landing, they enjoyed their life together in their new home and neighborhood. They loved sunset happy hours on Old Man Creek, annual cruises throughout the Caribbean and actively participating in the community where they made many dear friends in the neighborhood. Early on, Ellis served as the homeowner association President and Bonnie served as the editor of the Anchor newsletter. They were married for exactly 18 years to the day, when Ellis died on his 80th birthday.
Bonnie loved art, and for many years she operated a calligraphy business from her home. She was a passionate reader and shared her love of reading with her many students and neighborhood children. She also enjoyed her bowling league, tracking the ospreys, playing the lottery and volunteering for Chesapeake Hospice.
Bonnie loved many cats through the years, but her most recent love was for her sweet dog, Wally. Stewart's Landing won't be the same without the frequent presence of Bonnie and Wally walking and greeting the neighbors, especially the children. Wally will be well cared for as her friends/neighbors, Karen and Bill and their children, have welcomed Wally into their home.
Bonnie also leaves behind her sister, Kim Kunenetz Baicar and her niece and godchild, Anna Lynn Baicar. She was preceeded in death by her brother Tommy, her father Walter, her mother Agnes as well as her best friend and husband, Ellis. There was, no doubt, a most joyous reunion upon her arrival in heaven with those she loved deeply.
Burial will be private. A Celebration of Bonnie's Life will be held on July 22, 2022 at Barranco Funeral Home & Cremation Care,P.A 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146 at 3:00pm followed by a Happy Hour in the Tolstoy culdesac. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Anne Arundel County SPCA, one of Bonnie's favorite charities.
