Blackford "Vince" Shelton, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
Vince was born in Gretna, Virginia on June 18, 1928 to Bessie (Hamlett) and Blackford Shelton, Sr. He graduated from Gretna High School and earned his bachelor degree from Hampden Sydney College. Throughout high school and college Vince was involved in athletics. In college he continued to play college basketball and baseball.
After college, he enlisted in the Army, served during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Captain. He then settled in Richmond and raised his family with his wife, Lillian Shelton. In 1971, they moved to Severna Park. Vince worked as the regional sales manager for the Chevrolet Motor Division for 32 years. He was an active member of Severna Park United Methodist Church. Vince loved working with tools. He was always piddling with and fixing things that should have been trashed. Most of all, Vince enjoyed his family. He loved being a dad, granddad and great granddad. He was always playing with the kids and didn't miss a game, supporting his wife's coaching career.
Vince was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 66 and a half years, Lillian Shelton, who passed away in January of 2021.
He is survived by his four children, Lorie Hankins of Severna Park, Boots Shelton of Pikesville, Gary Shelton of Glen Burnie, and Glenn Shelton of Severna Park; seven grandchildren, Christopher Hankins (MJ), Alison Steinmetz (Bill), Mimi Shelton, Katelyn Shelton, Kendall Payne (Jake), Nick Shelton, and Emma Shelton; one great-grandchild, Grant Blackford Steinmetz.
A brief funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10:00am at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Rd, Severna Park, MD 21146. The interment will be private.
