Betty Jean Warner Hunter, 84, a 51 year resident of Severna Park died on April 17, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, due to natural causes.

She was born on September 20, 1924, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late William and Nellie Warner .She graduated from Western High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Before moving to Linstead on the Severn, she lived in Catonsville, MD and spent summers in Lakeland on the Severn.

Prior to marriage, she was as a billing clerk for the C& P Telephone Company. She also had a passion to become a nurse.

Once married, Betty dedicated herself to family and friends. She was the best homemaker. She had a love for sewing, cooking, gardening, crabbing, fishing, bird watching, and the ocean. She was a Cub Scout, Brownie, and Girl Scout leader, and was always involved with volunteering for her children at school. Betty was an amazing bowler! She was a long time member of the "Roaring Twenties" bowling league, where her average exceeded all members. Betty excelled to be the Western High School badminton champion. While living in Linstead, she was an active member of their garden and bridge clubs. Betty also volunteered numerous hours to Meals on Wheels and the Severn River Lions Club fruit sales.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph M. Hunter, whom she married on September 11, 1948; daughters, Patricia Hunter Williams of Millersville, MD, Elizabeth Hunter Harrington of Ocean City, MD, and son, Bruce Douglas Hunter of Fairmont, WVA .Eight grandchildren: Sara Beth Kimble, Kari Hunter Drennen, Will Hunter, Holly Hunter Gooss, Ashley Williams Earle, Chris Williams, Kate and Rob Harrington; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother William Warner of Catonsville, MD.


Family and friends may visit on Thursday, April 23, 2009, from 6-9 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 24, at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baltimore Washington Medical Center Foundation, 300 Hospital Drive, Suite 231, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
