Betsy E. Matthews, 73, a 32 year resident of Arnold, passed away on September 18, 2021, at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

She was born on February 26, 1948 in Stamford, Connecticut, where she was raised. Betsy lived in several locations in Maryland including Cape St. Claire, Upper Marlboro & Arnold and also resided in Greeley, Colorado, Blacksburg VA and Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Betsy graduated from Washington Hospital Center in 1969 as a Registered Nurse. For the past 40 years, she has focused on nursing related to Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol Rehab.

Betsy's main goal was to bring as much light and sparkle into the world as possible through extensive travel and shopping adventures! However, she loved nothing more than lavishing love and attention on her six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Matthews, whom she married on June 20, 1971 and he passed away in 2006.

Betsy is survived by her daughter, Alida Matthews and grandson, Lam Matthews of Arnold, MD; son, Shane Matthews and wife Jaime and granddaughters, Kennedy and Harper, of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Lara Garcia and son-in-law, Wilmer and grandchildren, Ximena, Ferdinand, and Gizelle Garcia of Annapolis, MD; Celia Matthews, best friend, sister and soulmate; and countless people who were lucky enough to know her.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146.
