Bertha May Peeples, 81, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Samuel and Selma (nee Lay) Irvin in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in Baltimore before moving to Anne Arundel county where she lived for almost sixty years. Bertha loved to garden, to do arts and crafts, and she was also an animal welfare activist.  Bertha was a chemist and worked in advanced polymers at Vectra in the 1970's.

She was married to her late husband, Orlando Franklin Peeples, in August of 1977. Bertha is survived by her daughter Barbara Ashlie Schaechtel and son-in-law Michael, of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, her grandsons Adam Schaechtel (Baltimore City, Md), Eric Schaechtel (Anne Arundel County, Md), and Ryan Schaechtel (Anne Arundel County, Md) as well as three more grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday May 27, 2021 from 2:00pm-4:00pm & 6:00pm-8:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146.

Bertha will privately be laid to rest with her late husband, Orlando Franklin Peeples, a World War II purple heart recipient, at Baltimore National cemetery.
