BENNY "BEN" CONINE
Ben Conine, 70, died, Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was a true "Southern Gentleman" who fought a hard battle with cancer, aspiration pneumonia, and many other complications related to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a rare neurological brain disease.
Ben was born in Gillette, Arkansas on April 22, 1942. After moving to Ft. Worth, Texas, he joined the Navy and received a degree from St. Leo College. During his 22 years of service, Ben served in Vietnam on the LPH Okinawa, and aboard many other naval ships. He was a plank owner for the USS Arkansas and served aboard the carrier USS John F. Kennedy as the Combat Systems Officer. After retiring from the Navy he worked as a logistics engineer for LME, TRW, and Northrop Grumman for almost 20 years. He was an avid classic car enthusiast, belonging to many local and national car clubs. He won many awards with his 1960 Chevy Nomad stationwagon, "Gypsy". He also enjoyed playing cards, gardening, old movies and most importantly, time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Alice McCarthy Conine, their four children Lora Marie McCoy (Steve), Benny Doyle Conine, Jr. (Dawn), Melissa Anne Cooper (James), and Alicia Leslie Zamorano (Joseph), 12 wonderful grandchildren, and his brother William Doswell Conine III (Ella Jo).
Friends may visit on Tuesday August 28, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8:00pm at the Barranco & Sons,P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park, MD 21146. Services will be held on Wednesday August 29, 2012 at 11:00am in the Funeral Home chapel. Interment in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
