Dr. Benjamin A. deGuzman, a retired Glen Burnie physician, formerly of Severna Park, died suddenly at home in Centreville on Saturday, August 12, 2006. He was 73.

Dr. deGuzman was born and raised in Manila, Philippines and received both his undergraduate and medical degree from Santo Tomas University. He did his internship and medical residency at the former South Baltimore General Hospital under the auspices of Dr. Robert T. Parker. He was granted internal medicine fellowships at University of Maryland Hospital and McGill University Hospital, Montreal, Canada.

Dr. deGuzman practiced internal medicine in Glen Burnie for 35 years. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Medical & Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland as well as the Maryland Board of Internal Medicine. He was on the staff of the Baltimore Washington Medical Center (formerly North Arundel Hospital) and many recall his gentle and gracious manner when working with both staff and patients.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 17th at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, between the hours of 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Avenue South, Millersville, on Friday at 11AM. Burial is private.

Dr. DeGuzman is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Elizabeth Medaglia, three daughters, Crispina Gardner of Severna Park, Jenine deGuzman of San Francisco and Danielle Stern of Bozeman, Montana. He also leaves sons in law, William Gardner and Steven Stern and five grandchildren, Tara, Julie and Kendyl Gardner and Ellie and Ben Stern.
