IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barry L.
Serini
June 28, 1955 – March 29, 2024
Barry Louis Serini, 68, originally of Far Rockaway, NY and Cape St. Claire, MD, passed away peacefully on March 29th following a long illness. After graduating from University of Maryland and University of Alabama, Barry worked as a nuclear safety engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority, Environmental Protection Agency, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission during his career. Upon retirement, he combined his love of travel and desire to give back with regular volunteer trips abroad, including mission work across Latin America, where he enjoyed practicing his Spanish skills. Barry was a member of Mensa, an avid runner and hiker, excellent chef, lover of desserts, fan of sunbathing, and never missed an opportunity to show off his moves on the dance floor. Son of Helen (nee Tumulo) and Domenick Serini, he is survived by his brother, Paul Serini, of Crownsville; niece, Kerry (Serini) McHugh ; and two nephews, P. Alex Serini and James Serini.
Barry was diagnosed with epilepsy as a teenager and lived with the seizure disorder for the rest of his life; despite the challenges brought on by this disease, he was eternally happy and never let his circumstances bring him down. In recognition of the many aspects of the disease that still elude researchers, the family asks that donations be made in Barry's honor to the National Epilepsy Foundation in lieu of flowers.
Friends and family are invited to gather to share stories, photos and memories at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146 on Friday, April 5th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. On Saturday, April 6, there will be a memorial service at 1:00 pm at Severna Park United Methodist Church located at 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD 21146.
