Barbara Ann Shields, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, at the age of 93. Known for her boundless warmth, tireless energy, and signature greeting, "Hello, sugar," Barbara left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Barbara is now reunited with her beloved son, Robert Shields; her parents, Quinnie and Tillman Burks; and her dear brother, Tillman Burks.

Born on July 6, 1932, Barbara lived a life rooted in love and service. She shared a remarkable 70-year marriage with her devoted husband, Robert Shields. Their journey began in Barbara’s hometown of Pensacola, Florida, where Bob was attending flight school. Their enduring partnership served as the cornerstone of their family, providing a rare and beautiful example of lifelong commitment.

A woman of great compassion, Barbara was a mother who would do anything for those she loved. Her legacy of generosity is carried forward by her sons, Bruce (Nicole) Shields and Ronald (Alicia) Shields. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Lynn, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and laughter.

Barbara found her greatest peace in her garden. A master nurturer, she spent countless hours tending to her blooms, finding a quiet joy in watching things grow. This patience and care extended to her "grand-babies," who were the lights of her life. She is survived by her granddaughters, Kendal, Alexandra, Megan, Kelly, and Caitlin; her grandson, Bobby; and her great-grandchildren, Robby and Billy.

After her children were older and always feeling the need to keep moving, Barbara acquired Arnold Liqours, which also happened to be a part of the old B&A Railroad station for Arnold. During the time she ran the store, she also assembled the property around the store and would joint venture with a local firm to build the Arnold Station Shopping Center, in which The Depot Liquor store would reside until the sale of both the store and center.

She will be remembered for her radiant smile and her innate ability to make every person feel like the most important person in the room. Whether through a warm meal or a listening ear, Barbara’s kindness was a way of life. While her garden on earth is now quiet, the seeds of love she planted will continue to bloom for generations to come.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday January 28, 2026 from 12:00pm-2:00pm with a service to follow at 2:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care,P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
