IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara A.
Reinhart
November 28, 1936 – May 2, 2020
Barbara Anne Reinhart , née Meyers , died from COVID-19 on May 2, 2020 . She was 8 3 years old and resided in Severna Park, MD.
Barbara was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, and graduated from D'Youville College with a BA in elementary education . Barb ara was enrolled in a work study program in which she alternately taught elementary school and attended classes at the university. The joy she felt teaching th os e children stayed with her throughout her entire life. While enrolled at D'Youville , she met and married Ken neth Reinhart o n September 13, 1958. Since D'Youville was a Roman Catholic university, Ken was required to be interviewed by the Grey Order nuns because a married woman as a student was quite an irregularity during that time . Ken was told that if Barbara became in a " delicate condition " while enrolled that she would be asked to leave the university. Barbara graduated in June 1958 , quite pregnant with the first of her six children.
Raising six children , five boys and one girl , was the proudest achievement of Barbara's life. Ken's career with Western-Electric required frequently relocating the family . Barbara treated each move as an adventure for her children.
The pride and joy Barbara felt for her children was evident everywhere she went. Complete strangers were regaled with the adventures of the Reinhart family through her many stories . Being a superb negotiator, Barbara was known to ask for deep discounts everywhere she went, often using the leverage that she had " six kids at home and didn't have time for this! " Never mind that the children were grown and lived across the US.
Barbara was a creative artist with wide ranging talents from building and costuming entire puppet shows to her life-long passion for painting in oil. Barbara's grandchildren fondly recall her dressed as Miss Piggy managing her puppet shows, while her children treasure her oil paintings as gifts of love.
Barbara and Ken shared a life-long passion for gardening , landscap ing each of their homes with creative dedication. After retirement, they moved to Severna Park . T he Reinhart yard is decorated with terraces, fountain pools, stone walks, retaining walls , and sitting areas . The h e aven they created brought them great comfort and joy .
Barbara and Ken joked that they were the original Barbie and Ken doll s , but their love and 58 years of marriage was genuine.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth J. Reinhart, her parents, Joseph and Frances Euphemia Meyers , and sister , Mary Ellen Maskal . A private service will be held at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. Barbara Anne Reinhart will be interred with her husband at Maryland Veteran's Cemetery in Crownsville , MD .
