Barbara Maxwell, 78, a resident of Severna Park, died on December 3, 2014 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park.
She was born on December 14, 1935 in New Jersey, where she was raised and married to her late husband Donald Maxwell. They moved to Annapolis in 1960 and raised their family.
Barbara retired from Macy's and Hecht's Department Stores and also worked at Farmers National Bank in Annapolis.
A faithful Scouter, recipient of the District Award of Merit, she was responsible for providing the Cub Scout program for many boys. She was the mother of two Scout sons and two daughters active in Girl Scouting, and was active as a Girl Scout leader, as well as Cub Scout Membership Chairman of the Capitol District. Active in many areas serving youth, she was a member of the Parent-Teachers Association at St. Mary's School. She served as parent volunteer worker in the Health Room and the Library at St. Mary's School. Her family is a close knit one with deep loyalty to church and each other. She had been in Scouting for a number of years, serving as Den Leader, Den Leader Coach, Cub Scout Expo Ticket Sales Chairman and Cub Scout Membership Chairman. She also served as Quartermaster at the Cub Scout Roundtable, Assistant of Den Leader Workshop and had been responsible for the training of many new leaders to Cub Scouting. She had also been an active worker in the Sustaining Membership program. Her example for the youth of today was outstanding. For her exceptional service to youth, the Baltimore Area Council was proud to award the Silver Beaver Award to Barbara.
Barbara was also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days.
She is survived by her sons, Bruce Maxwell of Richmond, VA and Kevin Maxwell of Severna Park; her daughters, Susan Maxwell Holman of Crofton and Karen Maxwell Kidd of McLean, VA; and 7 grandchildren.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 2-5 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. Interment will be private.
