Barbara Hogsten, a lifelong resident of Arnold, died at home on Saturday, December 6th from complications of Parkinson's Disease. She was 80.
Barbara was born, raised and lived her entire life in Arnold within a mile of her church, Asbury United Methodist. She was a member since her birth and active in the church, church school and choir from her teens until recently when she was no longer able.
She attended Arnold Elementary School, where her mother was a teacher, and Annapolis High School. Later, after four years at Towson State Teacher's College, she also was a teacher for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Barbara married Jack Hogsten in 1957 and had two children. She was devoted to her family, church and community. She volunteered for several organizations, including Meals on Wheels for 25 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening and had a great sense of humor and fun. A gentle, humble, quiet-spoken lady, she never seemed to have a bad word to say about anybody.
Barbara is survived by her husband Jack, her son Paul and his wife Elizabeth, her grandchildren Elizabeth Meeshim, Stephen, Grace, Jack, Ana and Will, her daughter Karen Long and Karen's husband Ronald.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 7:00pm at Asbury United Methodist Church, 78 Church Rd, Arnold, MD.
Interment will follow immediately after the service in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
