Barbara Joan Carey, 84, of Severna Park, Maryland passed away on November 27, 2022. Barbara was born on June 1, 1938 in Middleboro, Massachusetts to Malcolm and Lillian Porter. After graduating high school and attending art school in Massachusetts, Barbara married Richard Carey, and the couple relocated to Severna Park, Maryland where Barbara became a fulltime mother and homemaker for more than 60 years.

Barbara earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1980. She enjoyed reading literature, writing stories, and making artistic drawings. She was known for her kindness and patience especially with animals. Barbara enjoyed riding her horses and caring for her pets.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband and adult children, Elizabeth Carey and Richard Carey (Jr.) and their spouses. She has three adult grandchildren.

A Memorial gathering will be held on Sunday December 11, 2022 from 12:00pm-3:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.
