Barbara Jean "B.J." Brokus, 70, of Severna Park, MD died on November 04, 2009 at University of MD Medical Center in Baltimore, due to heart failure.

She was born Barbara Jean Jarrells on July 2, 1939 in New Boston, Ohio to her parents Fred and Hazel Jarrells. She was raised in South Baltimore and later moved to Severna Park in 1959.

B.J. worked as a salesperson for Bell Imports before becoming a mother. While raising her daughter, B.J. returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper for Weiss Ford Motors, before working as an accountant for Southern Beef. Later, she opened her own business, "BJ's Accounting Services" where she managed for 15 years. Concurrently, B.J. was employed by Industrial Forest Products where she started as the director of the accounting department and later became the Controller on the Board of Directors. She then served as the director of accounting for the Health and Welfare Council of Central Maryland. Most recently, B.J. served the Severna Park Community and surrounding areas as a Real Estate Agent for over 25 years. In addition to her career ambitions, B.J. was also a Past President of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

B.J.'s hobby was being a "People Person". In addition, she enjoyed taking money out of slot machines, always winning. She was an avid collector of clown dolls and associated materials.

B.J. is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frank John Brokus; their daughter, Sherry Brokus Patton, son-in-law, Jim Patton, and granddaughter, Meaghan Jean Patton of Austin, TX; her sister, Toni Gianetti and (Donald L.) of Glen Burnie, MD; her sister in law, Barbara Mary Snowden and (Wes) of Middle River, MD and brother in law, James John Brokus and (Valerie) of Belair, MD. In addition, B.J. is survived by the children who "adopted her" as their "Nana" (grandmother), Courtney, Bethany, and Brianna. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Freda Kay Siefert.

Family and friends may visit at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park on Sunday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and on Monday from 9:30-10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John the Evangelist Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park on Monday at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Cemetery.
