Dr. Borislav "B." Boro Djordjevic passed away on November 26th, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He was born on August 25th, 1951 in Brežice, Yugoslavia and previously lived in Severna Park, MD; Williamsburg, VA; and Dobova, Slovenia. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1968, residing in Williamsburg and became a U.S. citizen in 1976. He attended the College of William & Mary where he met his wife Nancy Djordjevic and graduated with a B.S. in Physics in 1973. He played fullback and goalie for the W&M Tribe Soccer team from 1970-1972, making All-State in 1972. He continued to pursue his education at Johns Hopkins University, earning both his M.S.E. in Mechanical and Materials Engineering (1978) and his Ph.D. in Materials Science (1979).
Dr. Djordjevic leaves behind an impressive legacy of academic and industrial accomplishments. He contributed heavily to the aerospace industry including work for the NASA space shuttle program. He returned to academia for a time at his alma mater Johns Hopkins to serve as Director of the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation to mentor and guide future generations of engineers and world-changers. He began his own consulting company MAST Inc. to continue advising and offering consultation work, even after his formal retirement. During his career at Martin Marietta Laboratories, Dr. Djordjevic received an Outstanding Achievement Award in 1983 and 1984. He was also the recipient of the Martin Marietta Jefferson Cup in 1984, the corporation's highest award for outstanding technical achievement. He later received a Research Award for Sustained Excellence from the American Society for Nondestructive Testing in 2014. In April 2020, he was recognized by Marquis Who's Who with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. When he was not working, he enjoyed traveling with his family, summers boating on the Chesapeake Bay (captaining the Pegasus), relaxing in Nags Head, North Carolina at the family cottage, winters skiing in Colorado, collecting frogs, and in general being goofy with his two daughters.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dr. Cirila Antolovic Djordjevic, and his father Branislav "Branko" Djordjevic, who both passed away in 2016. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughters Julie and Christie, his sons-in-law Neal and A.J., as well as his grandchildren Sophie and Grady.
A memorial will be held on Saturday December 16th, 2023 from 11:00am-1:00pm with the service itself beginning at 11:30am at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD, 21146. There will be a reception with lunch buffet immediately to follow from 1:00pm-4:00pm at Cafe Mezzanotte, 760 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. All are welcome to come and go as you please to remember Boro and share your condolences.
