Austin Rudolph DeWald, 96, of Arnold, died of natural causes Dec. 28 at FutureCare-Chesapeake in Arnold.

Born April 5, 1910, and reared in Schuylkill Haven, Pa., Mr. DeWald retired from the United Shoe Machinery Corp., where he was a machine technician.

His interests included music, playing the clarinet in various bands which he did since he was 14 years old, history, caning and refinishing furniture, reading and bowling.

Mr. DeWald was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Schuylkill Haven.

He was the widower of Delman DeWald and father of Terry DeWald, who died in 2002. Surviving are one daughter, Leah DeAngioletti of Arnold; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Inurnment will take place in Schuylkill Haven Union Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.barrancofuneralhome.com.
