August "Gus" Zimmerman, 90, a resident of Glen Burnie for over 53 years, died of natural causes at his son's home in Pasadena on July 28, 2013.

Gus was born on March 17, 1923 in Baltimore County, where he was raised. In addition he lived in Rosedale prior to moving to his home in Glen Burnie.

Mr. Zimmerman was employed in the auto repair industry where he specialized in body and fender repair from his teens until retiring in 1985. He served in the US Army in France and Germany during WW II.

He enjoyed working, building five of his homes and helping to build two others. He was fond of animals, especially horses. He lived on the water where he enjoyed crabbing, fishing, swimming, and boating. He also enjoyed dancing, which he did regularly at the Stoney Creek Democratic Club and the Moose Lodge in Glen Burnie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Anna Zimmerman.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Zimmerman (Ethel) of Pasadena; his daughters, Susan Zimmer (Mike) of Crystal River, FL, Carol Zimmerman (Rudy) of Naalehu, HI, and Toni Zimmer (Brian) of Cape Coral, FL; his grandchildren, Lisa, Joey and Makani; his great grandchildren, Carson and Noah; as well as, many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 1:45pm at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy. Pasadena, MD 21122. Online condolences may be made at www.barrancofuneralhome.com
