Arthur Bruce Villwock died of natural causes on February 19, 2024, in Arnold, Maryland.

Born on June 17, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, Bruce was the eldest of Arthur and Janet Villwock's three sons. The family moved to Crofton, Maryland in 1963 and Bruce graduated from Arundel High School in 1968. He attended Frostburg State College, where he played both football and lacrosse while earning a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education. His teaching career began at Annapolis Senior High in 1973. It was here that he started coaching lacrosse and basketball and was one of only three coaches for the 1978 AA State Championship football team. When Broadneck Senior High School was founded in 1982, he was hired as a teacher and coach and helped select the school's mascot and colors. He enjoyed over 20 years on the football coaching staff and also spent a few years with the junior varsity girls and varsity boys lacrosse teams. In the spring of 1995, he was an assistant coach for the only Boys Outdoor Track and Field state championship team in school history.

Bruce taught health, physical education, and weight training, and was the sole creator of the legendary "Bruce Ball" tournaments so fondly remembered by generations of Bruins. He aimed to turn every interaction with students in his classroom, in the hallways, or on the field into something personal and meaningful. He was honored with the Anne Arundel County Teacher of the Year Award in 1998 and created the Bruin Bully Busters program to encourage positive interactions among students and staff. He retired from teaching in 2013 but continued to support the Bruins by returning to campus for many sporting events. At the Senior Athletics Awards Banquet each spring, he was proud to present the Bruce Villwock Bruin Award for service to the athletics program. Throughout nearly four decades, he mentored and befriended many members of the Broadneck community who appreciated his unique blend of heartfelt support, humor, and "tough love" that encouraged self confidence, hard work, and personal growth.

Bruce is survived by his children, Andrew Villwock of Annapolis and Leslie Richards (Nick) of Severna Park, his brothers, Jim (Judy) of Kent Island, Maryland, and Bob (Jeannie) of Huddleston, Virginia, and his grandchildren, nieces, and a nephew. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday March 25, 2024 at 10:00am at Broadneck High School Auditorium 1265 Green Holly Drive Annapolis, MD 21409.
