Arlene Kathryn Hall, of Severna Park, MD. died Wednesday, October 26 th , 2016 after a battle with Glioblastoma. She was 76.
Born in February 1940, to Hermann and Alvina Haug in Brooklyn, NY, she graduated 9 th in her class from Grover Cleveland High School, Ridgeway, NY in 1957 and earned her Certificate of Nursing from Bellevue Nursing School in New York City in the fall of 1960.
In August 1961 she married Gerald F. Hall and they moved to Pennsylvania, where she continued nursing and where all four of their children were born. Her husband's career moved the family from Pennsylvania to Manchester Ct, College Station, Texas and then finally to Severna Park, MD where Arlene has lived for the last 32 years. Arlene and Gerald were happily married for 34 years until his death in 1996.
A respected Nurse, Arlene received her RN to BS in Nursing with Honors in 1989 from UMBC, her MS in Community Health from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1996, and received her Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) certification in 2000. A Charge Nurse in various hospitals starting in 1960, when Arlene and her family moved to the Severna Park area she became the Director of Nursing at Hope House Addictions Rehabilitation Center in Crownsville from 1984 to 1993, then she joined the Baltimore Washington Medical Center as The Substance Abuse Clinical Specialist, her dream job, until she retired in 2014. An active member of the Maryland Board of Nursing, she also was a member of the Anne Arundel County Fetal and Infant Mortality Review project to improve the care of pregnant and addicted women, she participated on the Anne Arundel County Drug Overdose Fatality Review Team in 2015 and an active member of the Nurse Rehabilitation Committee with the Maryland Board of Nursing.
In addition to her commitment to medical care, Arlene was an active and long-term member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a Deacon and ordained Elder, volunteered annually in the Winter Relief Program for the homeless, was on the human resources committee for Woods Church, Pastor Search Committee member, and was on the Board of Directors for Ginger Cove in Annapolis. She also served on the Severna Park Community Center Board for 6 years. She loved cooking and having friends and family around the table, was an avid reader, and traveling with friends and family –trips to the beach were an annual event. She was a friend and support to so many professionally and within the community.
More than anything, Arlene was just Mom to her four children and many friends of her children. A devoted grandmother, she is survived by her four children: Jeffrey (Joanne) Hall, Michael Hall, Elizabeth (Stefano) Delens, and Jennifer (Scott) Powell, as well as her 5 beloved grandchildren: Hugh, Kathryn, Jackson, Hannah and Conor. In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by her husband Gerald Hall and her brother William Haug.
Arlene's life will be celebrated and remembered at a Memorial Service, Thursday, November 3 rd , 2016 at 4:00pm, Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis, Blvd, 21146. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Woods Church.
