Anthony V. (Tony) Ratkewicz, Jr., 71, of Severna Park, MD, passed away November 9, 2017, at his home.
Born in Granite City, IL, he was the son of the late Anthony V. Sr. and Frances Ratkewicz, of Madison, IL.
He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Joseph.
He graduated from Assumption High School in East St. Louis, IL, in 1964. In 1981, he earned a BA in Business Administration from the University of Maryland.
From 1966-1970 he was in the U.S. Navy, serving three tours in Vietnam. It was during this time as a cook aboard ship that he developed his lifelong interest in cooking.
He worked for Giant Food for 42 years, first as a meat cutter, and then as a Warehouse Manager until his retirement in 2012.
Tony's hobbies included cooking, collecting cookbooks, and gardening.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia; four brothers, Andrew (Michal), Arthur (Barbara), Allan (Kathy), Aloysius (Renee); nieces, Susan and Emily Ratkewicz; and nephews, Allan Jr., Alexander (Sarah), Jack (Natalie) Campbell, Ben Campbell, and Joe (Karrie) Ratkewicz.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, November 16, at 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 68 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146.
Interment will be on Friday, November 17, at 1:45 pm at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (donors@stjude.org) or to a charity of your choice.
