Anthony Averella, 56, a resident of Glen Burnie, died of ALS on July 16, 2011 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie.
He was born on August 15, 1954 in Baltimore, raised in Randallstown and previously lived in Arnold, prior to moving to Glen Burnie. He graduated from Milford High School in 1973 and Shepherd University.
He served in the US Navy from 1975-1997, the MD National Guard from 1997-2005, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Mr. Averella worked for Bollinger Roofing; BWI Fueler; was District Manager with Baltimore Sun; Driver for the Capital Newspaper; and a Truck Driver for local produce company.
He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans, the ALS Association, and the SPCA. He enjoyed working out, watching movies, traveling, Redskins football, Orioles baseball, golf (Tiger Woods), basketball, Nascar, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Florence Averella (nee Aust) of Glen Burnie; one daughter, Vicki Averella Mundell of Arnold; two stepdaughters, Kathy Barbato of Arnold and Debbie Schafer of Hatboro, PA; two stepsons, Ray Lauer of Warminster, PA and David Lauer of PA; one brother, John Averella of NC; one sister, Annalyn Long of Texas; seven grandchildren, Andy, Kelly, Leslie, Bobby, Josh, David, and Ericka; and four great grandchildren, Jordan, Aniya, Shayne, and Christian.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD.
