Annie Lee Jones (nee Rowell)  10/28/1929 - 06/11/2024

Ann was born in Dillon, South Carolina on October 28, 1929, the second of four children born to Paul Evans Rowell and Ethel Mae Rowell. Raised in Dillon, she graduated from Dillon High School in 1946. Ann relocated to the Washington D.C. area with a job working for Western Union. After some time with Western Union, Ann subsequently went to work at the Pentagon, working for several departments there and ultimately for the Army Surgeon General's office. It was in Washington D.C. that she met her future husband.

Ann wed the love of her life, Aubrey Bennett Jones Jr. in 1952, in Arlington, Virginia. After getting their start in Arlington, the couple moved to College Park, Maryland to begin their family. Together they raised two daughters, Sandra and Courtney.

The family of four would move from College Park, Maryland to Kailua, Hawaii in 1974.  Upon returning from Hawaii in 1977, they settled in Severna Park, Maryland. Ann worked for years as the front office secretary at Severna Park Junior High, later Severna Park Middle, where her southern accent coming over the intercom for announcements was iconic. In her retirement, Ann enjoyed playing bridge and following both politics  and ACC sports (especially basketball). She was always proud of her Carolina roots and never lost that southern accent.

Surviving Ann are one brother, Edsol Homer Rowell, one sister, Monnie Vivian Donald, two daughters, Courtney Ann Szymanski (Jon) and Sandra Lee Platts (Jeff), four grandchildren - Jeffrey Bennett Platts, Harrison Granville Platts, Carter Wright Platts, and Erica Morgan Szymanski - and 15 nieces and nephews. Ann was predeceased both by her husband, Aubrey, who passed in November of 2023, one month after the couple's 71st wedding anniversary, and by her brother, Paul Evans Rowell Jr.

Aubrey and Annie Lee were members of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1983.  Ann loved her home in her Severna Park community, North Cape Arthur.

Private services will be held with only close family members.  Memorial contributions may be made to Woods Memorial Presbyterian church or to Dysautonomia International.
