Anna June Smith
June 26, 1932 – January 19, 2025

Anna June Smith passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, at the age of 92.

Born June 26, 1932, in Lansdowne, Maryland, June Bendermeyer attended business school and became a bookkeeper for Cowan Trucking. On September 9, 1972, June married the love of her life, John Lester Smith, at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Saviour. She spent her life in just two beloved homes — on Third Avenue in Lansdowne, and later on Ocean Parkway in Ocean Pines, Maryland. She took much pride in this consistency.

June liked crabcakes, a good burger, and nearly anything sweet. She had a passion for gardening, birds, baking, and a Sunday afternoon drive and a dinner out with John. She cheered when the Ravens and Orioles would "show themselves." Her infectious laugh could be heard at every gathering, most of all when she was hosting a delicious Thanksgiving feast.

For the past two years she resided at Sunrise-Severna Park, where she enjoyed making new friends and decorating her space for each season.

June is survived by her cousin, Suzanne Watson of Annapolis, and her "adopted" family members through her lifelong friendship with Marian Bienlein (d. 2009). She was predeceased by her husband (d. 2000), and her mother, Anna L. Bendermeyer (d. 1966).

June will be interred at the Gardens of the Pines at the Community Church at Ocean Pines, a community where she and John cherished being members and will now be reunited. She will be deeply remembered by all those whose lives she touched.
