Ann Nuzzo Strickland, 96, a resident of Severna Park and formerly of Rye, NY for 40 years, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2017 at Howard County Hospital after a long battle with dementia.
She was born on Nov. 27, 1920 in New York, NY to Emilio and Catherine (Fanelli) Nuzzo.
After high school graduation, she attended New York Business School and worked for the Dept. of Defense during WWII where she met her husband, Roy E. Strickland. After starting a family, they opened their business in 1960, Strickland's TV Sales & Service in Rye, NY, where they pioneered in the Color TV industry. Later she opened and operated an Interior Decorator's shop, Walter E. Ward Upholstery in Harrison, NY. She most enjoyed family being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Doannie Tambascio (Severna Park); Kathryn Handelman (Millersville); 5-Grandchildren, Scott, Craig, and Darin Tambascio and Roy and Mark Spitalnik; and 4-great grandchildren, Summer, Brandon, Sophia and Zachary Tambascio. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Ann Catherine (Annie) Spitalnik, her husband Roy in 2000, and sisters, Lucy Masselli, Julia Zambernardi, Frances Cuomo, Mildred Esposito and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, Jan 20 from 2–4:00 pm and 6–8:00 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park, MD. A Mass Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan 21 at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD. Interment will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park Cemetery, US Rt. 1, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD, following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Tennessee or the Leukemia Society of America.
