IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann L.
Dixon
January 24, 1935 – March 3, 2024
Mrs. Ann Dixon, 89, of Severna Park, MD passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024. She is survived by her children: Hank (Cindy), Ray (Anne) and Annie (Craig); sister Kitty (George); and a bevy of stepchildren, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren that space constraints prohibit citing individually. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Marion Leland of Schenectady, New York, and three husbands: Warren D. Stewart, Grant S. Newlove, and William E. Dixon.
Upon graduating from the University of Rochester in the Class of 1956, Ann went to work for IBM as a sales support consultant. She was the first woman to hold this position, and it served as a harbinger of the pioneering spirit and resilience she would show throughout her adult life.
For several years, she raised three kids essentially as a single mom. Ann worked a full-time job to provide the best life for her family that she could. She weathered the storms life gave her with grace and perseverance, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Ann was an avid tennis player and golfer and a long-time member of Chartwell County Club. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League and volunteered with numerous clubs and charities. She was a lifelong learner–always striving to improve–taking classes in art history, bridge and even line dancing. She loved to travel. She was fun and up for many adventures. Ann was a gracious host, forever opening her home to guests with a smile, laughter, homemade cookies and even a margarita or two.
Ann's Christian faith was important to her, and she was a member and volunteer at St Paul's Anglican Church in Crownsville MD. Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a happy and generous person, often described as "the nicest person I know." She was courageous, and she was kind. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
There will be a memorial service at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 1505 Crownsville Road, Crownsville, MD 21032, at noon, Friday, April 12. There will be a reception at the Severn Inn following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ann's memory to the Alzheimer's Association at 800-272-3900.
