On April 12, 2013 our beloved father Amiel Bruno Wajbel, aged 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.

Amiel was born on October 6th, 1927 in Baltimore, MD to Karol Wajbel and Stella Lewandowski. He grew up in Locust Point where he attended our Lady of Good Council Elementary School and went on to attend Southern High School.

He served in the Army during the Korean War where, during his distinguished career, he was awarded both the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Upon his homecoming he met his sweetheart Phyllis, whom he would wed in 1958 and begin a love affair that would last 54 wonderful years. Together, they moved to Cape Saint Claire in 1959. He retired on April 30th 1987 from Western Electric after 30 years service.

He was a member of the American Legion, and became a charter member of the Broadneck Elks club, where he served many years as house chairman. In 1989 he was awarded Elk of the Year by his fellow lodge members. Amiel was an avid waterman and spent numerous hours on the Chesapeake Bay boating, fishing and crabbing. Alongside his wife Phyllis they enjoyed hosting crab feasts and family get-togethers at their home in the Cape. He loved to tend to his garden and he was famous for his tomatoes. He was a history and geography buff and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren about the state capitals and other geographical trivia.

He believed whole-heartedly in the importance of family, and over the years he played many roles for his. He was a teacher, confidant, friend, supporter, companion, and mentor to his wife, friends, children, and grandchildren.

Amiel was a member of Saint Andrews by the Bay Church. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Phyllis; his brothers, Casimir, Edward, Paul, and Raymond, and his two sisters; Regina, and Felicia. He is survived by his daughters; Gina and her husband Rick, Susan and her husband Jeff, his son Steven and his wife Debra; and seven grandchildren Jason, Joshua, Erin, Sean, Lauren, Logan, and Jessica. He touched so many lives over the years and he will be dearly missed.

Friends may visit on Tuesday April 16, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-8:00pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday April 17, 2013 at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Pkwy. Annapolis, MD 21409. The internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Hwy. Annapolis, MD 21401.
