Amanda A. Walker, born in 1927 to James V. Abbott and Elizabeth Roe Abbott in Washington, D.C. She grew up in Silver Spring, MD and graduated from Montgomery Blair H.S. and the University of Delaware.
She was married to the late Earl B. Walker for 64 years and spent many years at various Army and Airforce posts with him in the U.S. and overseas. While Earl was in the military, she volunteered with the American Red Cross as a "grey lady" (in uniform)! She also ran an Officers Wives Club Thrift Shop in Puerto Rico for 3 years and served Meals on Wheels for 40 years. More recently, she volunteered with Partners in Care. Amanda lived in Whitehurst, MD for 53 years and was Post Commander of the Yacht Club. She was the great granddaughter of the founder of the Capital, William M. Abbott.
She is survived by her children, Sandy (Tom) Callahan, Mike (Denise) Walker, Sharon (Rob) South, and Gloria Duddy (Pat Springer); her grandchildren Josh Wheeler (Tara), Matt Wheeler, Samuel South (Alistair McFarland), Jacob South, Lisa (Terry) Pitts, and Charlie (Stacy) Bercegeay; as well as her 10 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 from 10am to 12pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. A memorial service will be held at 12pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD, 21032.
