Allan Lee Spencer, a 59 year resident of Severna Park, died on March 30, 2024 at age 93. He was born January 26, 1931 in Baltimore, MD to Arthur C. and Elsie (Harris) Spencer.
He grew up in Baltimore County, attended McDonogh School where he was president of his class, and a varsity wrestler and lacrosse player. Following graduation from McDonogh in 1949, he attended the Johns Hopkins University earning degrees in Business and Engineering.
While in high school he enlisted in the Maryland National Guard, and after receiving his commission in 1953, served in the Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Spencer served in the defense operations of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation for over 40 years, joining the marketing department of the Aerospace Division at the BWI airport in 1953. He was appointed divisions marketing manager of the Defense and Electronic Systems Center in 1977 (now Northrop Grumman Corporation), and at retirement was executive assistant to the president.
He married his high school sweetheart Sue Ann Everngam in 1953 during his senior year at Johns Hopkins and they celebrated 61 years of marriage before her death in 2014. They were the parents of Jeffrey Allan Spencer of Lancaster, PA (deceased) and Kimberly Ann Spencer of Westlake Village, CA.
He is survived by his daughter Kimberly and five grandchildren: Kristen Ring; David Andersen; Brooke Andersen; Megan Dishart; Andrew Spencer; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Douglas C. Spencer and Arthur C. Spencer, Jr.
In retirement he pursued a longtime interest in American history, collecting and restoring American antique furniture, clocks and Americana. He served as a Director of the Kentucky Rifle Foundation, President of the Historical Electronics Museum, and was past chair of the Endowment Fund of the Severna Park United Methodist Church.
Friends will be welcomed for his memorial service at 11:00 am on Friday, April 26th, 2024 at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD, followed by a luncheon at the church to which all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Permanent Endowment Fund of the Severna Park United Methodist Church (SPUMC) or to the Scholarship Fund of McDonogh School will be welcomed.
